Letter from ISOI Superintendent

October 11, 2005

Dear Friends:

First and foremost, thank you for all of your letters of support, sympathy, and good will. I have forwarded all of your wishes to our students, staff, and parents. Many of you have asked how you can offer aid to the victims of the massive earthquake. After meeting with the leadership team, our community service coordinator, and student leaders, we have developed several initiatives:

-We have established an Earthquake Relief Fund to finance projects.
-We are collecting and purchasing essential foodstuffs, blankets, clean clothing and tents.
-We are arranging transport of these essential items directly to the Northern Areas and affected regions; some will be air lifted to the inaccessible areas.
-We have begun to identify specific reconstruction projects in the villages where our staff and students can ascertain the need and completion of the projects through photos, focusing on rebuilding schools.
-We are supporting a project that is building housing for displaced persons of the Northern Areas.

If you would like to help, you can donate to our Earthquake Relief Fund and support the above projects. To make this as meaningful and rewarding as possible for our fellow international schools, we are pairing each interested school with one of our high school liaison volunteers. Your ISOI school partner will communicate to you how the funds were used and also document with photos, letters, or receipts, the relief you have achieved with your contributions. This will enable students to actually see what can be achieved by the combined efforts of relatively few people.

Funds raised by your schools or organizations, as well as individual contributions, may be sent by mail to:

Rose Puffer, Interim Superintendent
International School of Islamabad
Sector H-9/1, PO Box 1124
Islamabad, Pakistan 44000

Please include an email address so that our student volunteer can personally contact you and keep you informed of our efforts.

With Special Thanks,

Rose Puffer

Below are wiring details which may be communicated to friends, family, institutions and other donors if they wish to send funds from abroad. Please stress that when giving instructions to their banks that the purpose “Earthquake Relief Fund” should be clearly mentioned. This will assist us in segregating any funds received for this purpose from the routine transactions in the account. It is preferable and speedy if funds are transferred to the schools account with Merrill Lynch in the USA . Alternatively they can also be wired to the Dollar account with Citibank Islamabad.

Regards,

Sibte Hassan
Finance Director, ISOI

Additionally, the school will honor funds that are earmarked for particular projects (ex. "The funds I donate should only be used to buy water"). It's easier to distribute money if funds are flexible and not tied to a particular project - but, in any case, I reiterate, that the funds should be clearly designated to the "Earthquake Relief Fund."
