Basic low-down on ISOI

I teach at the International School of Islamabad (ISOI). This is one of the private international schools, which runs an American-based education, in the capital of Pakistan.

About 300 K-12 students attend the school. The number of support staff and teachers seem to be quite large, though I have no statistics.

The school year began on August 15th, and classes run until June 7th. The agrarian calendar wins again with its long summer and winter breaks.

The school day then goes from 8:15am to 3:00pm. There is a series of 45 and 90 minute blocks and two types of days, Blue - Monday/Wednesday and White - Tuesday/Thursday. What about Friday? Well, each class from Blue and White days meet on Friday for 45 minutes each. The campus is generally open to students from 7:30 to 5:00 and 24 hours to faculty.

The school mascot is the Cobra and the school colors are blue and white. There are sports teams and clubs, but the former seem to have short seasons and set 75 minute practices.

The staff hails from USA, Canada, Pakistan, England, South Africa, France, and surely other places too. The students also come from all over but approximately 70% are of Pakistani descent.

The school has been open for over 35 years (since we have a staff member who has been here that long). The interim superintendent, Rose Puffer, is serving her 16th year. However, there has been a lot of turnover in faculty. It seems there are more new faces than veterans – but let it be said that all came with a positive attitude.
