Saturday, October 8, 2005:
7.6 earthquake occurs with its epicenter near Muzzaffarabad
· Margalla Towers fall in Islamabad
· Landslides occur in the mountainous regions of NWFP and Kashmir
· Roofs fall on students in schools, residents at home, and workers in their offices [Sunday is the day of rest in most parts of Pakistan]

Monday, October 10, 2005:
Pakistan declares 2-3 days off for national holidays
People organize relief efforts nationwide as individuals and small groups
Schools conduct inspections of facilities
[ISOI facilities inspected and declared safe over the weekend]
ISOI resumes school beginning with a school-wide assembly
With prior crisis experience, superintendent expresses the need for the normalcy of school as a support network and hub for relief efforts
Acting in the Community (ACT) organizes meeting to brainstorm ideas and facilitate community service efforts
Many student organizations adopt projects to run at this meeting and begin work

Week of October 10, 2005:
Student absences are excused as they attend to family needs and community efforts, but classes continue as possible
Reported missing members of ISOI community:
Two students in one family living in Margalla Towers
Two support staff members
Whole ISOI community knows affected members of our extended family
Immediate relief efforts at ISOI:
· National Honor Society (NHS) – Food Drive
o PTO packages food supplies into bags for easy distribution
· 10th Grade – Clothing Drive
· 12th Grade – Blanket Drive
· Bricks Magazine – Medicine Drive
· Truckload of supplies airlifted to affected areas via Rural…??? (Thursday)
Long-term relief efforts at ISOI:
· 9th Grade – Local donations
· 11th Grade – International donations
Pakistan and international NGOs begin relief efforts and assessment of damage

Saturday, October 15, 2005:
NHS sponsors the student packaging of food supplies into bags for easy distribution

Saturday, November 12, 2005:
Earthquake Relief Concert 2005 sets goal of raising 200,000 PKR
Students and staff perform songs, dances, auctions, powerpoint presentation, etc.
NHS holds an intermission bake sale
ISOI community raises 218,000 PKR* of profit

Wednesday, November 16, 2005:
Earthquake Relief Fund Committee (ERFC) begins with
10 members volunteer and were appointed for their skills and relief experience

Siana chosen as target for earthquake relief fund because:
As of Nov. 4, the town had not yet received aid from agencies; it is 0.5 km from the roadside.
The town is far enough away from major cities (i.e. Muzaffarabad and Islamabad) that it is unlikely to receive much aid in the future.
The town is small enough to allow our limited donations to make a major difference in the town's future.
We have workers in our school with families in the town that allow us to monitor progress and communicate clearly with local families.

Friday-Snnday, December 2-4, 2005:
ISOI serves as the staging ground and labor in the preparation of 50,000 UNICEF winter weather kits
Middle school sponsors this large project with help from the high school, staff, and parents
33,000 kits are actually created due to supply problems

Saturday/Sunday, December 3-4, 2005:
Team of teachers, student, and support staff visit Siana to determine their actual needs for the upcoming winter season
Team surveys each house in the Hundi Sharif area of Siana and delivers 50 donated UNICEF winter weather kits
Number of families, size and ages of families, current supplies, and future needs are determined with the aid of translators and Major Q. of the Pakistan Army
Team discovers a small tent school by collapsed school buildings
Local teacher, residing in neighboring village, interviewed
24 students attend, but many other students reportedly fear the collapsed school where 60 students died on October 8th
Visit is photo-documented but concern is raised over use of photographs of residents and students

Thursday, December 8, 2005:
ERFC meets to designate funds for immediate winter weather needs in Siana
Items for immediate relief consider heat generation, clothing and shelter insulation, health and sanitation, tools for self-sufficiency, and aid coming from other organizations
In determining allocations of funds, it is noted that survival through a harsh winter is necessary to maintain our student body for a future school

Saturday-Monday, December 17-19. 2005:
Team of teachers and support staff visit Siana to deliver winter supplies
