Three Cups of Tea

A parent dropped by my room today with a recommendation to check-out a book, Three Cups of Tea. The publication apparently tells the tale of a mountaineer saved by a village in the wilds of Pakistan and the story of his subsequent individual impact upon that same town.


Greg Mortenson is the mountaineer and the founder of an organization that has built over 50 schools in Pakistan.

ABC has an excerpt that you can read or just find it on Amazon. I'm hoping for a hand-me-down or maybe I'll find it myself...

This story is very appropriate at this time as our school is trying to built a local school in the village of Siana, since October 8, 2005. We have collected generous funds and supplies that we have distributed to N. Pakistan - but we have yet to built our lasting contribution of a school. [Landslides prevented my travel to survey Siana last weekend.] Our local school will create the only school in the community that lost a primary, a middle school, and a two-story high school on one morning with a 7.6 earthquake and several aftershocks. A tent school is the only meager locale for formal education - and we hope to rectify this issue soon.
